Thaddeus Moore
Thaddeus is the original founder and the main creative director behind Sprout City Studios.
"I am and have always been amazed at the concept of "sound" and the potential to transfer something so esoteric and formless into physical, tangible media. There has always been a consistent theme in what humans yearn to achieve in art... a way to share thoughts, ideas and emotions with others. Music is definitely the most potent form of this endeavor. Every day that I am involved in recording someone's art, I marvel at the experience. Every recording should be an original and creative endeavor. I have worked with many studios that have "methods" of doing things and have a difficult time adapting to an artists needs. I am willing to change techniques or adjust anything in this studio to accommodate your needs and listen to your ideas. I am a collaborative artist.
It is my goal to make your recording process as exciting and expressive as playing the music itself."

How It All Began...
By Emily Downing
In the spring of 1997 while on a soul safari in New Zealand studying permaculture, photography, and sustainable living, Thaddeus Moore had the realization that the only thing that really interested him was music. His family had always complained that he never talked about anything else, but he hadn't a clue as to how to fit that in to a "making a living scenario." Thaddeus wanted to make something that was beautiful and stirred creativity in his life and in that of others. A ride with a rock guitarist while hitch hiking helped decide that the highest priority was to find a studio apprenticeship upon his return to Eugene.
At the age of 19, Thaddeus enrolled himself in every sound-related course at LCC. The courses were all very helpful but he still needed more than they had to offer. One day out of the blue, a friend asked him if he wanted to build a recording studio. After searching for the perfect location, they found an old warehouse on W. 11th Alley. The warehouse was full of mold, dry rot, and crumbling insulation due to many years of bean sprout production. To make this become a reality, they needed to find two other people who were interested in transforming it into a recording studio. As luck would have it... they did.
Once the deconstruction, cleaning, and repairing began, Thaddeus gained many carpentry skills that he didn't know existed. One partner dropped out after 2 months, followed closely by the next. Scared, overextended, and under qualified, the two original partners were left to finish the planning and construction of an acoustically accurate/sound proofed studio space. At that time, both had to work "day jobs" while trying to snare a market for their new business in a small city. Two years into the project and still incomplete, the stress proved too much and the original partner sold his interests to a new face.
Several months later, the newest partner moved to the midwest due to family concerns leaving Thaddeus as the sole proprietor of Sprout City Studios. The experience gained by the hands-on work of the previous few years proved invaluable - he couldn't have learned more or better at any school. The studio WAS his school and through luck, experience and the kindness of knowledgeable people, Thaddeus found that he was now an accomplished and experienced sound engineer.
With hundreds of albums, Ep's, and demo's recorded in Sprout City and abroad, Thaddeus had stumbled into exactly what he wanted to do with his life. The studio has been steadily growing and advancing, and Thaddeus has been reinvesting every spare penny into making it the best possible place for musicians of all financial and musical capabilities to make music.
The studio turned the corner of its 10th year in September of 2007.
I am very interested in hearing from you. Please feel free to email me any stories you have that relate to experiences at the studio. Thank You!!!
